The EcoCentric is a weekly radio talk show focused on current environmental issues from the West Kootenay region of BC and beyond. The show features interviews with activists, experts, government and industry providing information and a variety of perspectives on environmental topics. Programs range in scope from deep ecology and conservation, climate change, food security, social justice, politics and more.
The EcoCentric is run by a team of four people who work with the West Kootenay EcoSociety, a non-profit environmental organization based in Nelson, BC.

Later she talks to counsillor Jack Weiss in Bellingham about the council's decision to ban Alberta Tar Sands products from the city fleet. Then off to federal court with EcoJustice to hear the case for killer whales and their habitat.

Speaking of garbage…Nelson’s Resource Recovery Manager at the RDCK, Mike Morrison talks about our current systems Zero Waste and Zero Pollution philosophies along with Extended Producer Responsibility. Jenny and Grant from the Clean Bin Project/Movie talk about their experience not buying stuff or creating any garbage for a year. Greg Moore, the Mayor of Port Cocquitlam in Metro Vancouver discusses their curbside composting system and the benefits and challenges of such a large scale composting project.

Suzy Hamilton talks to National Wildlife Federation Senior Scientist Doug Oakley in Washington DC about the BP oil spill and his scientific assessment after being on site late May. In the second half she explores the Taseko Ltd's Prosperity Gold and Copper Mine proposal that is waiting for federal approval. The mine is in the heart of Xeni Gwet'in territory south west of Williams Lake, BC and will see a pristine lake full of 85,000 Rainbow Trout used as a tailings pond. Contributor Tara Williams of Transition Nelson speaks about Nelson’s movement towards a post carbon society the Expo and Gathering occurring in Nelson which will get the town revved up for more environmental projects. PJ Partington of the Pembina Institute talks about B C311, the Climate Change Accountability Act which would set Canada’s target for 2050 emissions in line with the G8 commitments and US legislation and impose action starting now. Russel Rogers was interviewed about the Earth Darma Course offered through the Shabala Centre and Realynn Gibson gave an update on EcoSociety events.

Then Jim Holland founder of the Kaslo Jazz Fest is on to tell us about how he is going to reduce all that food vending waste coming out of the West Kootenay Festivals.

EcoCentric April 27: Suzy Hamilton and co-host Kim Klassen talk to George Heyman of Sierra Club BC and Calgary author Andrew Nikiforuk on the BC goverment's Site C dam proposal, water woes and a wake up call for BC. Andrew Gage of West Coast Environmental Law opens the show with an invitation to a birthday party in Nelson to celebrate the 20th year of the Environmental Dispute Resolution fund.

Earth Day, April 22: A special two hour live broadcast from Kootenay Coop Natural Food Store with EcoCentric hosts John Alton and Suzy Hamilton. They are joined by the Coop's Jocelyn Carver. The first hour showcases the theme Eat the Change you Seek in the World, with local farmers and food activists weighing in on Earth Day. The second half celebrated the local environmental support in Nelson and area with interviews. Highlight of the special were the live performances of musicians Flora Ware, Earl Hamilton and Billy Jones.
