Beat the Beats - Run for Radio - Walk for Wadio - Fundraising Event

Beat the Beats raised $2800 !!!

A Great Big Thanks to the Supportive Businesses who offered power for the DJ sound systems around the track, Volunteer DJ's, and all the Walkers and Runners and Organizers.

Many thanks to the Columbia Basin Trust " A legacy for the people" who funded the event by covering poster and printing costs, to the Nelson District Credit Union for their donation of $1,000.00, and Sound Vibes for the donation of CD's awarded to participants. Further thanks to Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza for helping get the word out.

Kootenay Cooperative Radio plans to launch this event again in the spring/summer, (under a different and more unique name), if you would like to be involved please let us know!

Beat the Beats 2009 took place on October 29th in Nelson B.C. Run for Kootenay Co-op Radio, or Walk for the Wadio: an event that engages the athletic minded with local community radio.

A fun active event where participants were challenged to beat the time that the music is played from up to 8 DJ stations around the course track: Hall Street, Vernon Street, Ward Street, Lake Street, & Front Street loop. Prizes are awarded to the best costume, best time, and the Pledge Team with the highest amount of funds raised through pledges.

Walk started at 6:45pm, Run started at 7:15pm, the distance was 5 Kilometers (5 laps around the track). The music stoped at 7:45!

DJs for the event: DJ Licorice Allsorts *(out front of the station - live on the air event), DJ Paparoots from the radio show Earthvibes , DJ Rhapsody from the radio show Break the Sterio, DJ The Man in Havanah, DJ Paul from the radio show Live and Let Live, DJ Ityen from the radio show Reggae Train, DJ Joel West from the radio show All Mixed Up.

The after-party (where the DJs play on) at Finleys Irish Bar & Grill - goes into the night - Beat the Beats participants have free entry at the door. Costumes are encouraged!

This fund raising event for Kootenay Cooperative Radio, Run entry fee for members is $15 or $20 for those who are not members yet.

Pledge forms for walkers and optionally for runners enable participants to request donations of $1 to $5 per lap of the track from generous friends, neighbours, and relatives. Completion of the entire distance will mean a donation from each sponsor of between $5 and $25. A minimum total pledge of $20 is required for registration.
